STDs

There are many different types of sexual transmitted diseases (STD) that are documented today!  These are acquired bacterial and viral infections contracted through sexual behavioral acts.  Some treatable STD’s include Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Genital Warts, and Herpes.  Some harder to treat STD’s include Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B.  Did you know that today there are preventive shots one can get to avoid contracting these two types of hepatitis?  These are the treatable sexual transmitted diseases.

The harder to treat STD’s include Syphilis and Hepatitis C, but today there are treatments for both to stop the harsh effects these diseases.  Another type of STD is anal venial warts and virginal venial warts that are precancerous and left untreated can lead to colon cancer and uterus cervical cancer.  Women can now get a series of shots to prevent contracting this virginal wart.

Unfortunately, even in today’s society the worst and the last crippling STD is HIV (Human Immunity Deficiency Disorder).  Even though it is now consider a treatable life long illness, it is still unmatched by any other STD.  It feeds upon T-cells and reproduces a virus within the human body.  If left untreated it may go into a stage called AIDS and this is a life critical moment because the body has little or no immune system left to fight even the common cold.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Chlamydia is one of the most prolific STD’s in the U.S. and is usually asymptomatic.  In women, it can result in pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), a major cause of infertility, chronic pelvic pain, and ectopic pregnancy.  Studies of controlled trials of Chlamydia screening in a managed care setting imply that screening programs can reduce the prevalence of PID by as much as sixty percent.  Chlamydia can make it easier to transmit HIV infection.  The study also found that pregnant women infected with Chlamydia could pass the infection to their infants during delivery.  This can result in neonatal ophthalmia and pneumonia.  The CDC recommends screening for Chlamydia annually for all sexually active women under the age of 26.

The CDC also noted that Gonorrhea is the second most frequently reported STD disease in the U.S. Gonorrhea, like Chlamydia, is a major cause of PID in the U.S.

The study also found that Syphilis, a genital ulcerative disease, causes significant complications if untreated and makes it easier to transmit HIV. Syphilis in pregnant women can result in prenatal death in up to forty percent of pregnancies if contacted prior to or in the early stages of the pregnancy.  Even if the infection was as far back as four years prior to the pregnancy, there is an eighty percent chance it can lead to infection of the fetus.
